Copeland Age and Advice Service (CAAS) is a not-for-profit Social Enterprise providing information, advice, and support to those over 55 in Copeland to enable them to live safely and independently.
One of CAAS’ aims is to reduce inequalities by ensuring that everyone can support themselves and manage financially, understand and access their housing options, and access support to enable them to live independently.
To assess a client’s situation in full, CAAS takes pride in being the only organisation that carries out a vital holistic assessment in their home environment to enable them to identify their needs.
When asked why they based their HQ in Cleator Moor, Claire (management Support Officer) responded with “we decided to move to Phoenix House due to the accessibility of the building and the ease of parking surrounding the area… this makes it easier for our clients to reach us, especially with our meeting room on the ground floor.”
“It is also useful having PEC’s Advice and Guidance Team in the same building so we can refer to one another.”
Currently, they are experiencing a high demand for their benefit check service and are about to start rolling out their Winter Warmth Grant funded by Cumbria Community Foundation. The rise in demand for these services is due to the cost-of-living crisis.
Criteria for the Winter Warmth Grant:
- Aged 60 or over and a Copeland resident.
- Receive State Pension and/or Pension Credit
- Struggle to maintain a basic acceptable standard of living during the winter due to the cost of heating your home and the restrictions of cold weather
How much can you apply for?
Grants will normally be £200 or £300 in exceptional circumstances.
Through their benefit check service and assistance with making relevant benefit applications so far, they have increased the overall weekly income of individuals in Copeland by £226,074.42 with backdated payments made totalling £697,171.35
