Our local food pantry was started in July 2020 by volunteers to help people in Copeland access food during the Covid-19 pandemic and operated out of the Cleator Moor Civic Hall.
Today the food pantry operates from one of the business units within Phoenix Enterprise Centre (PEC). With financial backing through a local and national funding initiative, a PEC-employed Food Pantry Coordinator and a fantastic team of volunteers organised this local food service. The Food Pantry team gather weekly to source, pack and deliver food parcels to people who require our help. This was only supposed to be a short-term project, but as there continues to be a need in the community we have continued to offer the necessary support.
The Food Pantry has remained an essential helpline to families throughout the Copeland area. The families we regularly support rely on the food pantry for food and essentials due to a variety of circumstances, which has not been helped further given the cost-of-living crisis in 2023. All our customers work towards a better financial situation for themselves and their families either through our Advice and Guidance service or one of the partner agencies.
